Design for Access and Mobility - new Australian Standard

There is a lot of confusion going around at the moment about the current Australian Standard for Access and Mobility in relation to public restrooms and the like.
There is a new code released in draft form (AS1428.1-2009) (Access to Premises - Buildings) Standards (Premises Standards).
This has been reviewed by the Attorney Generals office (Human Rights Branch) who have indicated that they "accepted, accepted in part, or accepted in principle eighteen recommendations" and "The Premises Standards will commence operation on 1 May 2011, in line with the adoption of the Building Code of Australia in each State and Territory."
reference: "www.ag.gov.au"

What does this all mean?
Basically, the current Australian Standard as legislated in the current Building Code of Australia is 1428.1-2001. The new Australian Standard 1428.1-2009 will not be law until the 1st May 2011.
If you lodge a building application with your certifier prior to that date, the building design must comply with the current standard 1428.1-2001.
If you lodge your application on or after the 1st May 2011, it must comply with AS1428.1-2009.

New Shelter Range released at LOGOV EXPO and CIVENEX

Outside Products recently released this brand new picnic shelter design at Civenex in Sydney and LOGOV in Brisbane with great success.

The "Hotham" shelter has a double curved, split roof which is half concave and half convex.

Designed and engineered specifically for highly corrosive environments from an all aluminium construction, the "Hotham" picnic shelter can also be adapted for high wind loading, including cyclonic conditions.

It is the first standardised range of shelters designed and manufactured by an Australian company for this specific purpose.

Until now, all standard shelters being used in a marine environment needed to be modified to cope with the harsh corrosive conditions, or the few that could, weren't able to cope with a high wind loads.

The "Hotham" range of shelters starts at 4 x 4m and can be increased in length in increments of 3m.
ie: 4 x 7m, 4 x 10m, 4 x 13m etc

Full specifications for the Hotham Picnic Shelter are available via the shelters menu or click this link "Hotham".

South East and North QLD has suffered from major floods and damaging winds recently.  With the large cost of repairing infrastructure, it's nice to know that our structures are withstanding the floods and won't need to be repaired or replaced.
